Suresh Gyan Vihar University (SGVU) in Jaipur traces its roots back to the determined efforts of Shri Kamlakar ‘Kamal’ and Acharya Shri Purushottam ‘Uttam’, who founded Sahitya Sadawart in 1938 during Rajasthan’s feudal era — a time when education was still out of reach for many, especially the poor, women, and marginalised communities. What began as a humble initiative to spread free knowledge through travelling (peripatetic) teachers slowly expanded into schools and colleges that blended traditional Indian learning with modern educational practices. In a way, these early efforts quietly contributed to Jaipur’s gradual emergence as an education hub.
Acharya Uttam, often remembered as a teacher in the truest sense, inspired generations not just academically but morally. Later, founder Shri Suresh Sharma carried that vision forward, establishing schools for underprivileged girls and contributing to Rajasthan’s early education reforms as an active Congress leader. The launch of Gyan Vihar School in 1994 marked a new chapter, integrating Eastern and Western pedagogical approaches. By 1999, the Gyan Vihar School of Engineering & Technology had been established on a 32-acre campus, signalling a clear move toward science, technology, and professional education.
In 2008, through Rajasthan Act No. 16, the institution attained the status of a state private university, empowered by the UGC under Section 22 to award degrees. Since then, SGVU has grown steadily in reputation, earning NAAC A++ accreditation — notably the only private university in Rajasthan with this distinction at the time — along with recognition in NIRF rankings. These milestones reflect consistent efforts in academic quality, research output, faculty development, and institutional governance.
Today, as the flagship institution of the Gyan Vihar Universe, SGVU offers a wide array of programmes ranging from B.Tech and management studies to doctoral research. Among its undergraduate offerings, the BCA degree course provides students with a strong grounding in computer applications, programming, data analytics, and emerging digital technologies.
